Jennifer
Jennifer’s parents both died of aids. The young girl watched as first mom, then dad slowly passed from this world, leaving her alone. True, there were grandparents, but they had become estranged from the family due to a terrible misunderstanding regarding her parent’s illness.
So, having lost both parents, Jennifer became a ward of the state and was placed in a foster home, and then, another foster home, and then another. Jennifer’s behavior continued to deteriorate, as she tried to come to grips with her situation. Finally, after several runaways and a suicide attempt, authorities placed Jennifer in the care of Children’s Foundation of Mid-America.
Not only did she receive the love and guidance from child care staff, she was also given a mentor who helped her work through her grief and begin to look to the future. Jennifer is still alone physically, but she will never be alone in her heart. She knows she is cared for and is making strides in becoming a healthy young woman.
