Tammy

Six years ago, Tammy and 2 younger siblings were removed from their home due to neglect. Their mother was severely mentally ill and drug addicted. Due to her mother’s inability to care for the children, Tammy had often taken the role of mother to her younger siblings.

Tammy’s case was assigned to Children’s Foundation of Mid-America from the very start. One of her mother’s friends became Tammy’s foster mother. She has provided food, shelter and clothing for the young lady, but not much in the way of guidance or love. Still, Tammy is safe.

Despite the trauma in her life, Tammy is a straight A student, a member of the National Honor Society, a cheerleader and active in other student organizations at school. She graduates in just a few weeks.

She is very competitive and resourceful.  Tammy has taken advantage of many services including the Chafee center. Working with the people at the Chafee center, Tammy has put together a strong plan for her future. This fall she will attend Colorado State University where she will major in veterinary medicine.  With funding from grants, funds from the state and some financial aid, her expenses will be covered until she turns 21.

Tammy is very clear in her goal. She wants to work with large animals on a reserve. With the help of her case manager at Children’s Foundation and her entire care team and Tammy’s determination, this young lady shows signs of being a successful member of society.
