Val

Val came into our care almost completely dysfunctional.  His self-esteem was so low that he sat in the cottage and refused to go to the dining hall. “They will make fun of me.” “I can’t be near other people.” “Please don’t make me eat in public.”

Val referred to himself as a “dork” and frequently mentioned suicide.  His self-imposed isolation only served to deepen his depression.  With much patience from dedicated staff, Val’s barrier came crashing down one by one.  Val began to socialize, to attend our individualized education classes in addition to his therapy.  Val now attends college and works part time.  No longer does he call himself a “dork”.  He is a confident, competent young man.
